My name is Kelly Porter. I live in Florida with the love of my life, a few dozen houseplants, and a modest menagerie including a goofy dog, four birds, two lizards, and two hermit crabs.
I'm obsessed with making things, whether it's with my hands or in my head. At any given time, I have no less than half a dozen projects going, and I'm probably daydreaming about the next one. I got a fever, and the only prescription is more crafting. Right now I'm really, really into yarn. (Check out my craft-scapades in my blog.)
I enjoy problem-solving. It's something like a game to identify the beast and puzzle out all the ways we could approach it. Finding the path with the highest efficiency and the least waste is addictively rewarding. In my eyes, things (including our personal development!) are seldom ever "done". There is always a way to improve them, and I'm going to find it. I approach life a bit like an agile developer. I believe you can change the world by making one thing a little better every day. As Lao Tzu said, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
I am most practiced in solving visual design and communication problems, but lately I've been leaning toward UI/UX and interactive design. I love reading about the psychology of design and the diverse, often surprising ways people use and perceive media based on UI/UX. And I love apps! I've been puttering around on a couple ideas for mobile/web apps I could use in my day-to-day life. I'm hoping to collaborate with my software developer partner to make them a reality!
