My first hat! Dedicated to my pupper, who graciously tolerated it for 2 minutes so I could feel justified in the 4 hours it took to make it. She looks FABULOUS in it, doesn't she?!
I got to apply a number of craft techniques to this little project. It was a lot of fun! After crocheting the main piece of the hat (custom-sized to her noggin), I used the rest of the yarn from the skein to make a big poofy pompom, a pair of tassels, and lengths of cord for the ties.
Last month, I made a lucet fork on the scroll saw. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to use it! The lucet is an ancient tool (commonly attributed to Vikings) used to braid a lovely square cord. The intricate braid, I think, gives the hat a more polished look than an ordinary three-strand braid.
All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this project! And Brookie looks like she enjoys it too. :-)
